Meet Tom & Jackie Crimboli of East Pointe, Michigan. They are the talented duo behind the quirky creatures made from odd metal parts most people see as junk. They also make a variety of other metal creations ranging from abstract art to tiny wire trees.
A portion of Tom's artist statement reads, "I feel very fortunate to be able to create and express myself through my artwork. I am a self-taught artist, since the beginning of my journey in the art world in 1975. For over fifteen years I was a silversmith, and I enjoyed the freedom of working for myself. Then I expanded my jewelry techniques creating larger sculptures so that more people could see and enjoy my art.
The challenge of taking cold hard metals and turning them into tangible pieces of my imagination from found objects gives me enjoyment. My mind explores many different territories, expressing the essence of nature, menagerie of whimsical garden art, abstract wall art and free standing sculptures.
I have been fortunate to have my sculptures go all over the world including being in private collections. Additionally, my art was featured on the Capital Building Christmas Tree in Washington DC. I was commissioned by the Anton Art Center to design an artistic bicycle rack, which I then constructed a 30’ Sea Serpent that is located in front of the Anton Art Center. The motion picture industry approached me to use 7 pieces of my artwork, and also commissioned me to create an original exclusive sculpture for the movie. My artwork can be found in several art galleries and fine art shows.
I’m very grateful for my God given talent and also take enjoyment in helping to recycle and clean up the environment."
You can find lots of Tom & Jackie's fabulous upcycled metal work at Yellow Door and online.
